PLAION REPLAI lanceert vandaag officieel de Intellivision Sprint in Europa. Deze premium, trouw nagemaakte herleving van één van de meest intellectueel ambitieuze consoles aller tijden arriveert net op tijd voor de kerst. De Intellivision Sprint is ontwikkeld in samenwerking met Atari en brengt 45 van de beste games terug naar de woonkamer volledig opnieuw ontworpen voor moderne beeldschermen, met behoud van de unieke tactiliteit, diepgang en ontwerpfilosofie die de Intellivision zo bijzonder maken.

De kern van de Intellivision Sprint bestaat uit een zorgvuldig uitgekozen selectie van 45 ingebouwde games in genres zoals sport, strategie, arcade-actie en experimenteel design; de genres waarmee Intellivision zijn reputatie als ‘slimmere’ console van de vroegen jaren ’80 mee verdiende. De verzameling bevat de eerste officiële Intellivision release van Boulder Dash naast de klassiekers zoals Astrosmash, Baseball, Shark! Shark!, Utopia en Night Stalker.
Iedere game bevat nieuw ontworpen controller-overlays die de fysieke interactie herstellen die definiërend was voor de originele Intellivision-ervaring. De volledige disc-controllers zijn gemoderniseerd met draadloze verbinding en oplaadbare batterijen, terwijl de HDMI output voor schone low-latency beelden op moderne Tv’s zorgt.

Atari heeft vandaag naast de launch ook een Day One firmware update uitgebracht die de functionaliteit uitbreidt en de gebruikservaring verfijnt. De update kan gedownload worden via de officiële Atari-website (www.atari.com) en bevat het volgende:
- High Scores opslaan: Toegevoegde functie voor het opslaan van High Scores in games die dat ondersteunen
- Online handleidingen: Voor elke ingebouwde game zijn QR codes toegevoegd die direct naar online handleidingen linken
- Verbeterde gamecarrousel: Beschrijvingen van games en screenshots blijven nu zichtbaar tijdens het scrollen door de bibliotheek
Om de update te installeren hebben gebruikers een USB stick nodig. De instructies zijn als volgt:
- Formatteer de USB-stick naar ExFAT
- Download het updater-bestand van de officiële Atari supportpagina en plaats het op de USB-stick (sommige gebruikers moeten het bestand naar ‘update.zip’ hernoemen)
- Plaats de USB-stick in de Port 1 ingang op de console (niet de USB-poort op de achterkant)
- Zet de console aan, waarna er een ‘Update System’ bericht zal verschijnen gevolgd door ‘Update Succesful’
- Verwijder de USB-stick zodra het systeem opnieuw opgestart is
